Thank You So Much

I'm back again today with another card.  This one is a thank you card.  I am finally getting around to using up my stash of paper and embellishments.  I once again used the sketch from Mojo Monday, but did a little "tweeking" as I usually do.  It's fairly simple, but has lots of layering.  It just seems I can't just stick with a pattern they way it is.  Anyway, this is a sweet little "Thank You" card I made.  I acutally tried my hand at paper piecing for the first time.  I stamped the girl with embossing powder on colonial white cardstock and colored it in.  Then I stamped her again on a polka-dot piece of paper from "Perfect Day" and cut out just her dress.  I think it turned out pretty good.

I decided that I'm going to build up my stash of thank you cards.  As a teacher, it seems like I'm always in need of one, whether it's for something a child had done for me or a parent volunteering.  I'm going to make up a box of thank you cards so that I always have one on hand and ready to send out.  Here's the one I did today:

100_1005

Paper:  CTMH "Key to My Heart", CTMH Colonial White Cardstock, CTMH Sorbet Carstock, CTMH "Perfect Day" (her dress)

Stamp Sets: CTMH "Family Ties-Adult" (C1346), CTMH "Thank You" (D1361)

Embellishments: CTMH Sorbet mini brads, black embossing powder, CTMH inks & blending pen, ribbon from my stash

Well...thanks for looking.  Let's see what else I can come up with...

Have a great night.

Sweet, Sweet Summertime

What do you like most about summer?  There are just so many possible answers to this question.

    * the weather

    * the vacations

    * popcicles

    * playing in the pool

    * kids laughing

I love the sunshine and the colors of summer!  Everything is so much brighter...the colors of the sky, the colors of the sunsets, all the different colors in the water, the colors of people's clothes and bathing suits.  That's what inspired this card the most...the colors.  Bright, deep, happy colors.  Pink...orange...torquoise...yellow...green.  This card incorporates all of those colors and one of my new favorites stamps.  I just love the flip-flops.  They scream SUMMER!!!  Who knew that one day we would be able to buy those simple little shoes in every color and pattern imaginable?  They are definitely popular.

The card layout comes from another card I saw here on the internet, but for the life of me, I can't remember or find the artist who created the original.  If you are the one...thank you for the inspiration!!

100_1004

Stamps: CTMH "August Word Puzzle" (D1290) and "February Word Puzzle" (D1269)

Paper: Bazzil cardstock, We R Memory Keepers "Sunsplashed" Designer Paper Pack, CTMH Colonial White

Embellishments: CTMH Juniper Bigger Brads, black embossing powder, teal velvet ribbon from Michael's, Nestabilities

Thanks for looking, and keep on enjoying your summer!!

A little more Mojo...

The "Mojo" is still flowing...

All I've been dreaming about this past week, is lying on a beach, toes in the sand, sunshine on my shoulders, and waves crashing in the distance.  Unfortunately, this is happening in the very FAR distance.  I'm not near the beach! :-(  I did spend a day at the beach up north at my mom's house this past weekend, but it just wasn't enough.  I feel the need for a week at the beach!

But not to worry, I can still be INSPIRED with some "Fun in the Sun...a day at the beach" and that's exactly what I've done here.  The idea comes from Mojo Monday Sketch #92.

Mojo92Sketch  Fun in the Sun

Stamps: CTMH "August Word Puzzle" (D1290)

Paper: 6x6 pages I got at Archiver's.  Unfortunately I threw away the wrapper, but they were a "gift" that I received with my purchase.  The colors matched so well with CTMH Juniper, Tulip, Hollyhock, and Chocolate, I just couldn't resist!

Embellishments: buttons CTMH Autumn (Z1283) in Hollyhock and Goldrush, ribbon is from American Crafts Valentine Collection.

I decided to add a little "something to the inside"...

Fun in the Sun_inside

Fun in the Sun_side

 So now, I'm off to find my flip flops, turn on the overhead lamp, set the fan on "breeze" and let the fawcet run...gotta get my beach time somehow!!  Have a great evening.

A day late and a dollar short...

Isn't that just the story of my life!  That's what Dad always said...  Anyway, I told you that I was feeling the creative mojo flowing again.  Actually, I came across a great site that has a different card sketch for inspiration every Monday.  While I am a few days late, working on the red, white, and blue Memorial Day layout kept me in the festive 4th of July mood.  So I used the same papers from my layout to create a "Happy 4th of July" card.  {hence the day late...}

Here's my card:

100_0987

Paper: Reminisce "est. 1776", CTMH Colonial White cardstock, Bazzil cardstock

Stamps: "Biker Bee" from Stampendous!, CTMH "Seasonal Celebration" (D1112)

Embellishments:  CTMH Markers Vineyard Berry, Outdoor Denim, Honey, and Black.  Ribbon and star brads come from my collection of random embellishments.

Here is the card sketch is that inspired my creativity.  The site is called "Mojo Monday" and this is their sketch #94.  They've really got a lot of great work there.

Mojo94Sketch

Well, thanks for looking and I'll see what else I can come up with.  Since this was sketch #94, I've got 93 others to try out.  Hmm...better get to work!!

FINALLY...Getting back in the groove.

Well, I'm finally getting back in the groove, and feeling creative again.  I finally got a chance to sit down and do some scrapbooking today...trying to catch up, if that's even possible.  My mom and I spent Memorial Day last year at Greenfield Village.  It was a great day!  Beautiful weather, friendly people, and even fireworks.  As usual, I took many pictures...too many...so narrowing it down has been very difficult.  These two pages are some of my favorite pictures.  I still have many, many more to go, so keep watching...

My Scrapbook Layouts001

  The first picture is of the clock tower of the Henry Ford Museum from behind the trees.  The second picture...I just love red, white & blue bunting.  It reminds me of when I was little.  All the buildings in Wayne, Michigan used to decorate with bunting each year.

My Scrapbook Layouts002

  The pictures on this page are of the fountain at the entry to the Village, the antique steam locomotive that still runs, and more bunting.  Isn't it festive?!

  The papers I used are from Reminisce "est. 1776" line.  Cardstock and embellishments are some that I've had sitting around unused.  I'm finally getting into the stash of supplies I have.  I did some inking of the paper with CTMH Exclusive Inks (Outdoor Denim and Vineyard Berry), and made the journaling box from CTMH "Comments" (D1359) using CTMH Desert Sand.  The button in the middle of the flower is also from CTMH.

Outraged at the latest "rage"...

I haven't been posting lately...life has just gotten in the way of my crafting.  You know the old saying..."Life is what happens when you're busy making plans."  But I've recently gotten the scissors, paper, and inks back out again...only to want to put them back away.  Not to worry...there may not be any artwork to share today, but it's coming.

Please read on...

Have you ever noticed that something that used to be so much fun, begins to lose its appeal the more popular it becomes?  Well, that's what has been happening to me.  I started scrapbooking and stamping about 4 years ago, and became a CTMH Consultant three years ago.  I love the craft, and I love the company!!!

The problem for me is in the "trends" in the paper-crafting industry.  I frequent a bulletin board that I thought was designed for the purpose of sharing ideas and creativity.  About a year ago, as handmade cards became more and more popular (or continued to gain in popularity) I saw more and more arguments and whining going on about "that's my design!  You stole my idea," and "You took my idea and didn't give me credit".  Posts on the bulletin board were deleted and feelings got bent out of shape.  Luckily that all died down in time.

Then the next "trend" began.  Templates.  If you don't know what a template is, it is simply a pattern for making something...a box, a bag, some sort of clever container for cards, candy, or what-not.  Anyway, as people began "designing" these templates they forgot all about that spirit of sharing ideas with those who share you passion for creativity.  Suddenly it became all about making money.  No longer did I read, "Oh, that is so cool!  Can you tell me how you made it?"  "Sure...here's what I did..."  Now all of a sudden, it's "Sure I'll tell you how I did it...but you have to pay me first!"

Now some of you may be saying, oh this is so trivial...it's only a couple of bucks.  Or ... hey!  The money is going for charity.  Give me a minute and please bear with me on this.  Point #1...it's only a couple of bucks.  Fine, but whatever happened to the camaraderie over sharing ideas and immitation being the most sincere form of flattery?!  Point #2...it's for charity.  Fine!  I'll show you the receipts showing all of the non-profit, charitable contributions I've made already this year.  Then you send me the template.

Here's my point...Look at it this way...I'm a teacher.  What happens if your child is put in the classroom next to mine.  He or she gets an inexperienced, new teacher (I've been teaching for 10 years).  Your child's teacher comes to me one day and says, "I'm really not sure what is the best way to present this lesson.  I've never done this before and I really want my students to learn the concept."  What if I responded this way..."Oh, that!  I've been teaching that lesson for years and years, and the kids really seem to understand it.  Tell you what...I'll show you how I teach the lesson...but you have to pay me first!"  Who benefits from that?  The students?  The new teacher?  The seasoned teacher?

Trust me ladies...nobody is inventing pennicillin here!!!  Every single one of these delightful little trinkets is a modified version of something that is already out there.  You don't own the copyright.  You don't own the patent.  Let's get back to the idea of sharing ideas, complementing each other on a job well done, and creating for the sense of self-satisfaction.  It's all about intrinsic value.  It's just paper for God's sake.

That said...I'm headed back to the scraptable...maybe I'll invent the next wheel!

Summer CTMH Blog Hop

Tomorrow's the big day...the CTMH Summer Idea Book will be available!!!  And talk about some great new product.  I've been going nuts.  I want absolutely everything in it!  I just received my shipment of the new paper packs, but I haven't been able to find the time to get into them.  They're sitting on my dining room table...taunting me...we're heeeerrrreee...come and playyyy...

Unfortunately, today was a horrible day!  Car problems on the way to work at 7:30 this morning...tow truck came to pick up my car at lunch time, and I was stranded at work all day long.  Busy, busy day...then our Ice Cream social this evening, pick up the car.  It's almost 10:00 p.m. and I just walked in the door.  Needless to say I have no art to show!  :-(  Sad day!!!  BUT...I do have a sneak peek for you.  Click on the Idea Book below and you'll be directed to my CTMH site.  Friday morning, the summer Idea book will be LIVE!!! Available for all to see.
